The Initiative to Support National Human Rights Institutions in Central Asia is a regional dialogue platform for the human rights institutions of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, which was launched in November 2016 with the support of the Istanbul Regional Center for the United Nations Development Program and the regional office of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights people in Central Asia.

Its goal is to ensure effective, independent and collaborative work of human rights institutions in the region, familiarization with best practices and exchange of experience between them. Also, this platform contributes to the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

In the regional dialogue, held in the form of a seminar, it was noted that the regional platform, along with increasing the capacity of national human rights institutions, serves to enhance the position of national human rights institutions in solving existing problems in the region within the framework of national and international standards.

At the event, the head of the delegation the Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights Feruza Eshmatova, speaking about the participation of the Ombudsman in reforms based on universal values ​​that are being implemented in the country, emphasized that she responds in a timely manner to issues related to human rights that are raised in society, and submits its proposals to the relevant authorities in order to systematically solve existing problems. In addition, she noted that as a result of reforms related to the development of the New Constitution of New Uzbekistan, the ombudsman institution will be given the right of legislative initiative.

The event, which was divided into sessions, discussed the accreditation of ombudsmen by the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions, the implementation of the Paris Principles, the participation of NHRIs in UN human rights mechanisms, best practices for alternative reporting, the role of ombudsmen in contentious issues, business and human rights. The regional seminar organized for national human rights institutions in Central Asia will continue its work until November 23rd.
