What Issues Do Convicted and Detained Persons Address to the Ombudsman?
A convict serving a sentence in Correctional Colony No. 13 of Tashkent Region reached out to the Ombudsman after learning that his mother was in critical condition, left alone, and without a caregiver.

This appeal was reviewed with an on-site visit by the regional representative of the Ombudsman for the Republic of Karakalpakstan, in cooperation with officials from the National Agency for Social Protection of the Republic of Karakalpakstan and the local mahalla. As a result, the convict’s mother, who lives alone in a house in need of repairs with an outdated heating system, was allocated 7 million UZS from the "Sakhovat va Komak" fund, and currently, renovation work is being carried out in her home.

Two detainees held in Pre-Trial Detention Center No. 2 of Karakalpakstan appealed to the Ombudsman for assistance in arranging phone calls with their families, as they had no opportunity for a physical visit. Following a petition by the Ombudsman to the relevant judicial authorities, the detainees’ requests were granted.

A female convict serving her sentence in Correctional Colony No. 21 of Tashkent Region submitted an appeal via the "Ombudsman’s Box", requesting assistance in securing a child allowance for her husband, who is the primary caregiver for their child with a disability. This appeal was reviewed jointly with the National Agency for Social Protection of Tashkent Region, and as a result, her husband was granted the child allowance.
