This case has been taken under the control of the Commissioner of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights (Ombudsman), and all available information is currently being reviewed.
According to information provided to the Ombudsman, based on the decision of the Uzun District Criminal Court dated February 24, 2025, T. Khaitov was found guilty under Article 183 (Petty Hooliganism) of the Administrative Responsibility Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan and was sentenced to six days of administrative arrest. While being transported to the administrative detention center in the city of Termez, he experienced a deterioration in his health condition and was taken to the medical assistance department of Sariasiya district. However, medical personnel confirmed his death.
According to the forensic medical examination conducted in Sariasiya district, the deceased was found to have died due to ischemic heart disease, myocardial infarction, cardiac aneurysm, and cardiac tamponade. Additionally, complications of pyelonephritis and atherosclerosis were identified. The forensic examination did not find any bodily injuries or traces of violence on his body.
The Sariasiya District Prosecutor’s Office is currently conducting a preliminary investigation, with the case under the supervision of the Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
The Ombudsman has submitted an official request to the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Uzbekistan regarding this case.
The Ombudsman urges that the investigation be conducted comprehensively, thoroughly, and impartially during the preliminary inquiry.
