The next monitoring was carried out on March 19 this year by the staff of the Secretariat of the Ombudsman, which assists in the prevention of torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment in colonies No. 43 and 50 of the Tashkent region.

The members of the expert group also talked with close relatives of the convicts who came to the meeting, while familiarizing themselves with the conditions created for convicts in colonies, including rooms for long-term visits.

In addition, in order to increase the level of knowledge and broaden the outlook of the prisoners, the libraries operating in the colonies and the literature available in the libraries were analyzed, and it turned out that there are no restrictions on the use of literature for prisoners.

During the monitoring visit, the state of medical care for prisoners in colonies, the number of doctors and nurses and vacancies, the provision of necessary medicines and medical instruments, as well as compliance with the established requirements for patients with caronavirus infection and prevention of its spread, were also studied.

The members of the expert group noted that the prisoners were provided with special clothing, footwear and other personal protective equipment and hygiene, based on the priority of their life and health in the employment of prisoners. During the monitoring visits, the necessary recommendations were given to eliminate the identified deficiencies in the colonies.
