The conference was attended by representatives of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime in Central Asia, the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights (Ombudsman), specialists from a number of ministries, departments and organizations, as well as specialists from domestic and foreign universities.
Within the framework of the conference, reports were presented on such topics as: “National experience of the preventive mechanism for the prevention of torture under the Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights (Ombudsman)”, “The activities of the Ombudsman in the penitentiary system of the Republic of Uzbekistan”, “Criminological problems of the security of prisoners”, “European experience penitentiary systems in ensuring human rights”, “Liberalization of the rights and freedoms of convicts in the strategy of the new Uzbekistan” and other topical issues.
Based on the opinions expressed by experts and specialists during the scientific and practical conference, proposals and recommendations were developed aimed at improving criminal legislation, ensuring the rights and freedoms and legitimate interests of convicts in places of deprivation of liberty, introducing effective methods and forms of their correction, strengthening discipline in penitentiary institutions, and studying the best practices of foreign countries in this area.
As a result of the conference, it is planned to publish a collection of scientific articles “Ensuring human rights in places of deprivation of liberty: the experience of Uzbekistan”.
