Issues of public interest should be made public by the Prosecutor General's Office - Commission
A regular meeting of the members of the commission to study the situation and events in the Republic of Karakalpakstan was held. The opinions of the members of the Commission, who took part in the court hearings of the Bukhara region, regarding the events in the city of Nukus were heard. The open nature of the trials, the testimonies of the accused, victims and witnesses were analyzed and compared with the opinions they expressed to the members of the Commission.

During the participation of members of the Independent Commission in the trials regarding the events that took place in Karakalpakstan, the circumstances arising in connection with this and causing concern among the general population were studied, and an appropriate appeal was sent to the Prosecutor General's Office with a request to clarify these situations.

The appeal asked for information about 516 citizens detained as suspected of committing mass riots, 22 defendants whose cases are currently being considered in court, other persons temporarily held in closed institutions, brought to administrative responsibility, as well as the question of whether excessive force during unrest by law enforcement and on cases of human rights violations.

As soon as the final statistical and analytical data on the participants in the judicial investigation process is released, the Independent Commission will inform the public about it.
