Inmates are trained in occupations based on their interests
As previously reported, on the initiative of the regional representative of the Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights (Ombudsman) in Namangan province, vocational training is being conducted for inmates held in penitentiary institutions of the province.

On 5 October 2024, a competition was organized in correctional colony No. 6, located in Pop district, among inmates who had completed a course in “Cooking”. This competition was held in cooperation with the regional representative of the Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights (Ombudsman) in Namangan province, the territorial branch of the Association of Disabled Persons of Uzbekistan in Namangan province, the “Oshpazlar” society in Namangan province and the colony administration.

Inmates were divided into 6 groups, which prepared 5 types of national and foreign dishes and various salads. According to the results of the competition, the winners were determined and various prizes were awarded. Also 65 inmates received certificates for completing the 1-month course. 

On the same day, the regional representative of the Ombudsman in Namangan region conducted a study of the conditions created in colony No. 6, located in Pop district, including living conditions, food and medical care for inmates. The monitoring also examined the conditions created for convicted persons with disabilities.

The Regional Representative interviewed collectively some 400 convicted persons held in the colony.

In addition, the appeals received in the “Ombudsman's box” of the colony were accepted, and 7 appeals were accepted individually. During the on-site reception, the appeals received were taken under control and measures were taken to resolve them.
